Information about Cremations and Burials
Burial Service
Burials are often thought of as a more traditional funeral service, however, they are much more flexible and personal than you might think. Burial typically happens after the funeral service, but you may choose to have a graveside service instead. Many choose to have family members and close friends at the burial service itself, then open up to more family and friends at a funeral service or memorial service. There is also the option of above ground burial if your family has a dedicated crypt or mausoleum.
Regardless of how you wish to carry out burial, it’s often an intimate and personal event. When comparing to a cremation, it’s important to consider whether you will need a burial plot or a headstone as well.
Cremation Service
A cremation service is a wonderful way to celebrate a loved one’s memory, and a more cost effective alternative to burial. Cremation services can be as simple or complicated as you want them, ranging from a direct cremation with no cremation ceremony, to a full funeral service and memorial service. Cremation itself usually takes place after a funeral service, with the ashes being returned to the family no more than 48 hours later.
Cremation also means choosing between different cremation urns, and choosing a location to scatter the ashes.
Funeral Services and Memorial Services
For both cremations and burials you are welcome to have funeral services and memorial services, or neither. Overall, the only difference between cremation and burial is whether your loved one’s ashes are scattered, or whether they are buried.
If you’re making funeral arrangements, discuss your needs with our funeral director. We’ll guide you through your options and help you choose the service structure that’s right for you.
